Rose (2025)
Choreography/ dance : Flora Hyoin Kim
Music: Mirage by Michael Yanis
Premiered at Welcome to Chinatown by Summer Breeze. This piece reflects the natural cycle of all life, from birth to death, and how we can find both beauty and emptiness as we come to life, blossom and depart from our last breath.
Rose embodies the natural cycle of life, from birth to death, and how we can find both beauty and emptiness in that journey. As we come into being, grow, and eventually fade away with our final breath, we are reminded of life’s impermanence.
By using flowers as the central subject—observing their life from sprouting, to blooming, to withering—this work explores the meaning and purpose of our existence through the lens of honoring death.
Death is a universal experience that is inescapable and inevitable. Can facing and acknowledging death influence how we make decisions, set priorities, and shift our perspectives on life? Does the presence of an end make life more meaningful? Or does the certainty of death render life ultimately meaningless, knowing that all things must perish?
